LCoS Panel

Wafers

Wafers form the fundamental base for creating Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) devices. These thin, polished slices of semiconductor material, usually silicon, undergo precise fabrication processes involving cleaning, coating, etching, and layering. The quality and uniformity of wafers are critical as they determine the performance and reliability of the resulting LCoS panels used in advanced optical applications.

What is LCOS?

Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) is a reflective microdisplay technology that uses liquid crystals layered on a silicon backplane to modulate light at the pixel level. LCOS panels offer high resolution, fast response times, and compact form factors, making them essential components in applications like projectors, augmented reality, and wavelength-selective switching, where precise control of light is required.

Our LCOS Panel

Our project utilizes a specialized LCOS panel built from carefully processed wafers and optimized for superior optical performance in advanced sensing and communication applications. This custom LCOS device integrates seamlessly with our other technologies to deliver high precision and reliability. Below is an image of the actual wafer used in our device fabrication.

FPGA Technology

A Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) is a highly versatile integrated circuit that can be configured and reprogrammed after manufacturing to perform a wide range of digital functions. Unlike fixed-function chips, FPGAs provide exceptional flexibility, enabling rapid prototyping, customization, and parallel processing to meet evolving application needs. Their reconfigurable architecture makes them ideal for complex, high-performance tasks in telecommunications, automotive systems, aerospace, and cutting-edge photonics.

The image above shows the FPGA used for this project. It controls how each pixel of the Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) panel turns on or off, determining the diffraction patterns formed. By programming each pixel individually to be either active or inactive, the FPGA dynamically modulates the light reflected by the LCoS, enabling precise control over the optical output.
